Our Sweet Gunner

Two weeks ago today, we had to say goodbye to our first baby, our dog, Gunner. Early Wednesday morning, Gunner was hit by a car. Unfortunately the driver never stopped to see if he was OK. Thankfully, he was able to make it to the house, but his leg was severely injured.

After 2 vet consultations, and x-rays, we decided we needed to put poor Gunner down. He would have required major surgery on his leg, and after that, would never be able to do the things he loved most (hunting, running, etc.). He also would have suffered from arthritis, and could have complications the rest of his life. Although we are very sad about losing Gunner, we are glad that he won't have to suffer, and we will always have lots of great memories of him!

Here is sweet Gunner when we first brought him home 4 years ago! He was so sweet and cuddly, but very naughty at times! I don't even know if I could count how many pairs of shoes he chewed up! :-)
Gunner was always SO excited to come visit me in the hospital during bed rest. Little did he know that his life would sure change!

Enjoying our first walk as a family of 7!

Gunner was always such a great dog, and loved to pheasant hunt with James. He was so careful around the kids when they were babies, but had a tough time dealing with them when they became mobile. He went to live with James' parents full time last summer , where it was quiet and he could run around and play. We will always remember our sweet Gunner boy!

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. We had to put our sweet dog, Stella, down last summer and it was heart breaking. Our first babies have a special place in our hearts.
